Pelat is a funny and interactive circus show.

Taming a pole—but what exactly does that mean? Pelat is a solo performance that combines craftsmanship with collective action, humor with physical performance. In this show, you won’t be able to distinguish the boundaries between dance, circus, theater, and performance—or even between yourself and the performer. The show is inspired by traditional Catalan festivals centered around the maypole or castells. The man and the famous pole engage in an unusual dance with the audience. Pelat invites you to a memorable moment of humanity.

Joan Català

Joan Català Carrasco was born in Barcelona in 1978 and has developed a restless and curious perspective on the visual arts and movement. He conceives the stage as a space for dialogue between human beings, objects, and the environment. He began his artistic training in 1994 at La Llotja, always with a focus on sports. Between 1999 and 2005, he specialized in circus arts and acrobatic balance at schools in Madrid, Barcelona, and Moscow. At the same time, he trained in contemporary dance, physical theater, and clowning under renowned international teachers. Since 2005, he has worked in theaters and festivals around the world with various companies. In 2012, he launched his personal performing arts project in public spaces with the show Pelat. He subsequently created Menar (2016), 5,100 m/s (2021), and IDIÒFONA (2023). He also collaborates as an outside consultant with companies focused on the movement arts.
